Courses - ESL/Literacy
English as a Second Language classes are:
- For people who want to improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills
- To help improve their English skills in day to day life, for employment or for further study
- Different levels (Beginners to Advanced) available
- Classes are 4 - 6 hours per week
- Classes run all year round on a school term basis
Adult Literacy classes are:
- For people who may speak English well but would like to improve their reading and writing skills
- To help improve their reading and writing skills for day to day life, for employment or for further study
- Classes are on a Thursday evening for 2 hours
- Classes run all year round on a school term basis
- New students can enter the class at anytime (if there is a place available
Important Information:
If you would like join either the English as a second language or basic literacy classes you will need to make an appointment for an assessment. The assessment will take 15 minutes and will help decide which class best suits your needs. The information will then be given to the teacher who will decide which class is appropriate for your level. We will contact you within 7 days to let you know if and when you can commence class.
Language Literacy & Numeracy Program (LLNP)
The Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP), funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) provides free training to jobseekers who need help with reading, writing, numeracy and/or spoken language skills to improve their job opportunities. To be eligible for this program jobseekers must be registered with Centrelink or a Job Network Provider, and aged 15 – 64. Entry to the program is via referral from Centrelink or Job Network. An appointment is made for the jobseeker to be assessed to determine which level of training is appropriate.
Three streams of Training are available:
- Initial Language
- Basic Language, Literacy and Numeracy
- Advanced Language, Literacy and Numeracy
What does this Program Offer?
- A pre- training assessment to determine individual learning needs
- 12 hours training per week
- Up to 800 hours of training
- A supportive adult learning environment
- Small class sizes
- Computer assisted learning and basic computer training
- Improved confidence and skills essential for both everyday life and access to employment
